Recreativo de Huelva to visit eight artificial turf pitches in Segunda Federación

Recreativo de Huelva will visit eight artificial turf pitches in Segunda Federación, doubling last season's trips on this surface.

Recreativo de Huelva will play eight away matches on artificial turf during the 2026/27 season in Segunda Federación, according to the schedule released this week.

Recreativo de Huelva is preparing for a season with an added challenge: eight of their away trips will be on artificial turf, a surface that has historically posed difficulties for the blue and white team. Last season, in the four synthetic pitches they visited, they only accumulated five points from twelve possible.

A schedule with fewer kilometres but more synthetic surfaces

The configuration of group IV of Segunda Federación for 2026/27 has reduced travel distances by eliminating the Murcian teams, but has doubled the number of playing fields with artificial grass. The blue and whites will mainly travel through Andalusia and Extremadura, although they will also need to fly on four occasions to face the teams from the Canary Islands.

Specifically, the synthetic pitches that Recre will play on are: Municipal de Lebrija (Atlético Antoniano), Francisco Muñoz Pérez (Estepona), Municipal Ciudad de Lucena, Juan Gambero Culebra (Mijas-Las Lagunas), Nuevo Estadio Ciudad de Alcalá (Atlético Central), and the three from the Canary Islands: Anexo al Estadio Gran Canaria (Las Palmas Atlético), Estadio Municipal de El Paso (Atlético El Paso) and Juan Guedes (Tamaraceite).

"Only in the second away match of last season, at Francisco Muñoz Pérez against Estepona, did we achieve victory. Against Puente Genil and Deportiva Minera we only managed draws, and at Municipal de Lebrija we suffered a defeat that left us out of the play-off," club sources recall.

The Canary factor: three flights

Of the eight synthetic pitches, three are located in the Canary Islands, which will require Recreativo to travel by plane on four occasions (including Tenerife B, which plays on natural grass). The UD Las Palmas reserve team plays its matches at Anexo al Estadio Gran Canaria, which has a capacity of about 2,000 spectators. Atlético El Paso plays at Estadio Municipal de El Paso, which has had artificial grass since 2003 and was renovated five years ago. Meanwhile, Tamaraceite plays at Juan Guedes, which was completely renovated in 2025 with an investment of 91,400 euros.

For Recre fans, these trips represent a logistical and financial effort, as following the team on their trips to the Canary Islands will require planning travel in advance. Additionally, the team's performance on artificial grass will be crucial for their promotion aspirations.

A precedent that calls for caution

Last season, Recreativo accumulated five points from twelve possible on artificial turf pitches, a record that hampered their chances of competing for the promotion play-off. The defeat at Municipal de Lebrija against Atlético Antoniano was particularly painful, as it confirmed their exit from the promotion race. Now, with double the matches on synthetic surfaces, the team will need to improve their performance if they want to fight for promotion to Primera Federación.

The complete schedule will be known in the coming days, but Recre already knows they will have to adapt to a surface that is not the usual one at Nuevo Colombino. The coaching staff is already working in pre-season to minimise the impact of this factor.
