The Mijas team faces its final weeks of pre-season with a strengthened squad and a friendly this Saturday against Xerez Deportivo in Chapín. The league debut will be on September 5 in La Palma.
CP Mijas Las Lagunas continues its preparation for a season that will mark a milestone in its history: its debut in Segunda Federación. The squad, now integrated with the new signings, is approaching the final stretch of pre-season with a high-level friendly this Saturday against Xerez Deportivo FC at the municipal stadium of Chapín.
The deputy mayor of Las Lagunas, Eloy Belmonte, visited one of the first team's training sessions to show the support of the Mijas Town Hall and to see firsthand the evolution of the group. Belmonte highlighted the pride that the promotion brings to the municipality and encouraged residents to support the club in this new phase.
“It is a great pride for Las Lagunas and for Mijas what this club has achieved. CP Mijas Las Lagunas has shown us that with effort, work, and discipline, one can go very far, and it has become a magnificent example for our children and for all the young people starting in sports,” Belmonte stated.
The Lagunero team is currently working on adapting to the higher demands of the category. The club president, José Manuel Quero, positively assesses the integration of the new players and the atmosphere in the dressing room. “There is a very united atmosphere, of work, discipline, and a very family-like environment,” he explained.
The coach, José Antonio García, assures that the new signings allow for “a very balanced squad,” with different profiles to face the various scenarios of the competition. The immediate goal is to assimilate concepts and accumulate minutes before the league starts.
The debut in Segunda Federación will be on September 5, and it will be away from home, with a trip to the island of La Palma to play the first match. The promotion represents a sporting success, but also an economic and organisational challenge for the club.
Travel distances will be longer, federation registrations will increase, and the entity will have to compete with higher budgets. Therefore, the Mijas Town Hall has called on residents and businesses in the municipality to support the team, either by subscribing or as sponsors.
“They have managed to put Mijas on the national football showcase, and that, for all Mijeños and especially for those of us living in Las Lagunas, is a huge pride,” Belmonte highlighted.
CP Mijas Las Lagunas has made history and represents values of effort and perseverance that are an example for the entire municipality. The fans have a date this Saturday in Chapín to see the team in its penultimate test before the grand debut.
