The new parking facility in the Los Santos neighbourhood, in Las Lagunas, is now operational with 272 spaces distributed across four underground levels. The infrastructure has involved an investment of €15.7 million.

The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, inaugurated this Friday the new parking facility in the Los Santos neighbourhood, in the Las Lagunas area. The infrastructure features 272 spaces spread over four underground levels and has required an investment of €15.7 million.

Of the total parking spaces, 200 are reserved for subscribed residents, allocated through a public draw, while the remainder operates on a rotation basis. The facility includes spaces for people with disabilities and for electric vehicles.

The project occupies almost the entire underground area of the La Cala, Mijas, and Los Olivos spaces, connected by San Matías street. Vehicle access is via a ramp from San Jorge street, next to the connection with La Cala square, and the exit has been established at Mijas square. Both ramps are located in the central island.

The parking also has two pedestrian accesses from the outside, with stairs and an elevator, to ensure accessibility and comply with regulations for eliminating architectural barriers.

The mayor explained that the project addresses the need to alleviate parking issues in a consolidated urban area. "Since we took office, we have initiated the execution of this project. We have closely monitored its progress through the Infrastructure delegation and ensured that the project was advancing in the direction we needed," Mata stated.

"We have come, we have supervised, we have spoken with the project managers, and we have checked on-site how each phase was progressing"

The mayor highlighted that a reorganization of spaces proposed by the government team has allowed for an additional 38 spaces beyond those initially planned. "We will continue working to ensure our city has the infrastructure it needs, so that each investment has a real impact on people's lives," she added.

With this opening, the residents of Las Lagunas now have a new parking space in one of the most densely populated areas of the municipality.
