The new transformation centre from Endesa in Las Cañadas will improve the supply for over 2,000 residents starting in August. Mayor Ana Mata announces the completion of the underground cabling works.
The electrical renewal works in the Las Cañadas neighbourhood in Mijas are nearing completion. Mayor Ana Mata has confirmed that next week the works for the new underground cabling will finish, allowing the activation of the transformation centre built by Endesa. This initiative will benefit more than 2,000 residents who have suffered from power outages and damage to appliances for decades.
A historic problem coming to an end
The electrical installations in Las Cañadas were over 40 years old, causing constant breakdowns and blackouts. Residents had been reporting the situation for years, which affected not only the supply but also the safety of their electronic devices. The mayor, who held regular meetings with the company and residents, has prioritised this initiative since taking office.
The new transformation centre, now completed, is dependent on the Las Cañadas substation and will be exclusively for this neighbourhood. According to municipal sources, the cabling and connections are in their final phase, and the service is expected to be fully operational by August.
Commitment fulfilled after months of management
On January 14, Mata met with representatives from Endesa at the deputy mayor's office in Las Lagunas, accompanied by the Infrastructure councillor, Juan José Torres. In that meeting, the mayor conveyed the residents' complaints and committed to expedite the municipal licence to accelerate the works. Now, six months later, the works are about to finish.
“We have worked hand in hand with the company and the residents to provide a definitive solution to a problem that had been unresolved for too long,” the mayor stated.
For the residents of Las Cañadas, the improvement brings relief after years of uncertainty. Many had suffered financial losses due to appliance breakdowns and the inability to maintain a routine without electrical interruptions. With the new infrastructure, it is expected that these incidents will disappear completely.
Local angle: what changes for the residents?
From August, the more than 2,000 residents of Las Cañadas will leave behind recurrent power cuts. The new underground network reduces the risk of breakdowns due to weather conditions or overloads. Additionally, the transformation centre exclusive to the neighbourhood guarantees quicker response times in case of incidents. The City Council reminds that the municipal licence was processed preferentially to avoid delaying the initiative.
As a practical note, residents do not need to carry out any procedures; the connection will be made automatically once the technical tests are completed. Endesa will notify in advance of any scheduled outages for the final start-up.
