The Mijas Town Hall and Endesa have completed the renewal of the electrical infrastructure in Las Cañadas, serving over 2,000 residents. The works, which began in spring, were completed on August 7.
The neighbourhood of Las Cañadas in Mijas has left behind decades of power outages and failures. Since August 7, the new transformation centre and the cable connections and conduits are operating at full capacity, a project that benefits over 2,000 residents.
The Councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres, visited the area to check the results of the works that began between April and May with the construction of the transformation centre, dependent on the Las Cañadas electrical substation and exclusively for the neighbourhood. The cabling, conduits, and connections were executed during July, and the final connection was made on August 7.
“The decision and management of the mayor with Endesa and the residents have made it possible to finally renew facilities that were over 40 years old,” Torres explained. The project responds to an investment commitment made by the electric company on January 14, during a meeting held at the Las Lagunas deputy mayor's office.
In that meeting, the mayor, Ana Mata, conveyed residents' complaints about the constant supply issues, which not only caused blackouts but also damage to electrical appliances. Mata then committed to expedite the municipal license to prioritise works that are now completed and in service.
The renewal of the network was a long-standing demand of the residents of Las Cañadas, who have suffered for years from the consequences of outdated facilities. With this action, the Mijas Town Hall and Endesa consider a problem that affected the daily lives of the neighbourhood's homes resolved.
The residents of Las Cañadas can now enjoy a stable and safe electricity supply, which is a relief for families and businesses in the area. The infrastructure is also prepared for future demand expansions.
