The Marbella Book Fair kicks off on July 17 at Paseo de la Alameda with an extensive children's and family programme that will run until August 16.

The Paseo de la Alameda in Marbella will become the epicentre of reading starting next Friday, July 17, with the opening of the Book Fair, which this year will feature a speech by the doctor Javier García Alegría. Organised by the Culture delegation, the event will extend until August 16 and will place special emphasis on children and families.

A high-profile speech at the Royal Hospital of Charity

The inaugural event will take place on July 20 at the Royal Hospital of Charity, where García Alegría will deliver the speech titled 'Eulogy to Reading'. The General Director of Culture, Carmen Díaz, has highlighted that the choice of the doctor represents "a recognition of a professional and human career closely linked to our city".

Díaz emphasised that the speech "constitutes one of the most significant moments of this cultural event" and encouraged the people of Marbella to attend this event that marks the start of a month of literary activities. The fair, now in its new edition, aims to establish itself as a cultural reference for summer on the Costa del Sol.

Children's programme: stories, workshops and theatre for the whole family

Activities for the little ones will begin on July 21 with the storytelling and makeup workshop 'The Elephant Told Me', by Rosa Martín López, aimed at children from three years old. Throughout the following weeks, the programme will include proposals such as the workshop 'We Are All Strange', focused on diversity and self-esteem, or the oral storytelling 'The Word Collector', by Pepepérez.

The children's calendar is completed with shows such as 'Biznaga de cuentos', by Diego Magdaleno; the puppet theatre 'Three Stories Three', by the company Ángeles de Trapo; or the storytelling 'Mandarina and the Pirates', by Mado Vidal. All activities are free of charge until capacity is reached and will mainly take place at the institutional stand in the Park of Alameda.

Literary presentations and book signings

In addition to the children's programme, the fair will host presentations by local and national authors at the Culture stand, while the participating booths will organise book signings. The cultural offering, according to Carmen Díaz, "seeks to promote the reading habit from an early age through participatory and quality proposals".

The Marbella Book Fair thus consolidates itself as an unmissable event for book lovers, with an atmosphere that invites strolling among books and discovering new publications. Residents of the Western Costa del Sol have a unique opportunity to enjoy literature in a privileged setting, right by the sea.

To ensure you don't miss anything, it's best to consult the full programme on the Marbella City Council website. Activities will take place from Monday to Sunday, with schedules adapted for families. The event, which attracted thousands of visitors last year, promises to repeat its success with a varied and quality lineup.
