The Marbella Town Hall has completed the comprehensive rehabilitation of two tennis courts at the Elena Benítez complex in San Pedro Alcántara, after six weeks of work.
The Marbella Town Hall has announced the completion of the comprehensive renovation of two tennis courts at the Elena Benítez complex in San Pedro Alcántara. The work has restored the optimal condition of surfaces that had suffered notable deterioration due to use and the passage of time.
The deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, and the councillor for the area, Lisandro Vieytes, visited the facilities to assess the results of the work. García explained that the intervention is part of the ongoing improvement of the town's sports infrastructure.
“It is a reference centre, with significant activity throughout the year, so it is essential to continue adapting it to the needs of its users,” García stated.
The work had a completion period of six weeks and consisted of a complete technical rehabilitation of the courts, not just a simple repainting. The concrete surface had superficial cracks and had lost grip and elasticity properties, which affected the regularity of the ball bounce and the safety of the athletes.
In the first phase, the damaged joints were removed and sealed with high-strength elastic adhesives. Then, a mechanical diamond polishing was carried out to level the surface, the cracks were treated with epoxy resins, and the unevenness was corrected with rapid leveling mortars. The cleaning concluded with a technical high-pressure wash.
On this base, a new semi-elastic system of advanced acrylic resins was applied, with a primer layer, two layers of regulation, and three layers of textured finish and sealing. Vieytes highlighted that the courts now have a certified sports surface for an average playing speed.
“With this treatment, we achieve a more comfortable footing, greater impact absorption, and, above all, a much more homogeneous behaviour of the ball,” the councillor indicated.
The regulatory signage has been carried out according to the criteria of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, using anti-slip microtextured paints. In addition, the entire perimeter fencing, which had rusted areas, has been replaced with new fencing that increases security and incorporates a gate for access by auxiliary means for future maintenance work.
Vieytes emphasised that this action is part of the municipal commitment to maintain and modernise the network of public sports facilities.
“Creating new infrastructure is just as important as preserving existing ones and ensuring that residents can use them in the best possible conditions,” he added.
The courts are now available for users of the complex, which maintains intense activity throughout the year.
