The Marbella City Council has completed the security works around the Nagüeles park and auditorium and the comprehensive renovation of Virgen de Loreto street, in San Pedro Alcántara, with an investment of €471,000.
The Marbella City Council has finished the security reinforcement works around the Nagüeles park and auditorium, on Camino del Pinar street, as reported by the local government. The work included widening the verges, burying the lighting wiring, selective clearing, and removing trees that posed a risk of falling or interfered with road safety.
The Councillor for Works, Diego López, explained that the widening of the road platform "will facilitate traffic and parking for fire trucks, ambulances, patrols, and other security forces and bodies." Regarding the lighting, he noted that by eliminating the overhead wiring and burying it, "we have gained in safety because as they were, they posed an added fire risk, and this way, they have blended more with the rest of the area's landscape."
As for the clearing and removal of trees, the councillor assured that "it increases safety for people in a very visited area, reduces the fire risk in a green area with a lot of forest mass, and improves access for emergency services that might need to intervene in case of evacuations or fires." López valued that the works were executed "in a record time of two months" and that they allowed for the creation of a firebreak "that will help keep the area safer for everyone." The accumulated undergrowth, which "also constituted a dangerous combustible material," has also been cleared.
"Overall, the executed works constitute a preventive action aimed at reinforcing the protection of people, preserving the natural environment, and improving the intervention conditions of emergency services," summarised the councillor.
On the other hand, the City Council has completed the second phase of the comprehensive renovation of Virgen de Loreto street, in the Lazareto neighbourhood of San Pedro. The intervention has taken place over an area of 1,425 square meters and lasted five months, with a municipal investment of €471,000. The works included the renewal of sewage networks, the installation of a new separate network for stormwater and sewage, and new telecommunications, lighting, and electrical supply networks, as well as irrigation and street cleaning systems.
The Deputy Mayor of San Pedro Alcántara, Javier García, explained that this intervention "will improve the operation of the network and solve the problems that occurred previously, including those related to unpleasant odours and the need for interventions by sanitation trucks." The street now features a single platform prioritising pedestrians, with granite and cobblestone paving, LED streetlights, new bins and planters, and renewed vertical signage.
"This is not an isolated work; it is an urban regeneration plan," emphasised García, who announced that this September, the comprehensive renovation of Los Romeros street in the centre of San Pedro will begin.
The information, reported by Diario Sur, details that the local government continues with the urban regeneration of San Pedro Alcántara, focusing on accessibility and mobility.
