The Marbella City Council has presented a new edition of the 'Nature Outings' program, featuring ten routes from October 25 to May 9 and half a thousand free places. Registrations open every Monday prior to the outing at 10:00 hours via email.

The councillor for the Environment of Marbella, Diego López, has introduced a new edition of the 'Nature Outings' program, which will offer ten routes between October 25 and May 9. The initiative, as reported by Diario Sur, aims to bring residents and families closer to the natural, scenic, and historical heritage of Marbella and various locations in the province of Málaga.

The councillor reminded that around 500 people participated in the previous edition, and the available places were fully booked. This year, the offer remains for another half thousand people. Registrations will open every Monday prior to the outing, starting at 10:00 hours, and will remain open until Friday, on a strict first-come, first-served basis, via the email actividades.medioambiente@marbella.es. Each email address may make only one registration.

Waiting lists will prioritise those who have not participated in previous outings, with the aim of expanding access opportunities to the program, as López has indicated. All activities will be free, except for the visit to the Caminito del Rey, where participants will need to cover the entrance fee, set at 12 euros. The City Council will provide a free bus service with departure points in both Severo Ochoa, in Marbella, and at the bulevar de San Pedro Alcántara.

The program includes itineraries of different levels, with proposals aimed at adults and others specifically for families. The councillor detailed that “the first will allow the participation of minors as long as they have prior hiking experience and are prepared for the characteristics of the route, while the family-friendly ones will be shorter and less difficult walks.”

López has encouraged citizens to participate and to check the Environment website and social media, “where we will keep informing about the routes and any incidents that may occur.” He also noted that, in case of adverse weather conditions, activities may be rescheduled, as happened in the previous edition due to rain, ensuring the participation of registered individuals.

The monitor Ana Blanco, who returns for the third year as the person in charge of the activities, emphasised that the routes will allow the discovery of different ecosystems in the province and combine knowledge of nature with aspects related to history and heritage. “Many of the outings will take place in our area, because we know the Marbella beach well, but I believe we do not know our fields and mountains as deeply,” she stated. The routes will mainly cover Sierra Blanca, as well as other areas like Sierra de Mijas and Sierra de las Nieves.

The first outing will take place on October 25 and will explore the surroundings of Nagüeles, the Mina de Buenavista, and Los Monjes, in Sierra Blanca. Blanco highlighted this itinerary for allowing participants to learn about both Mediterranean vegetation and part of Marbella's mining history. “The Mina de Buenavista is a remnant of that era of Marbella, and in this route, we aim to emphasise not only the vegetation but also the history,” she noted.

Among the proposals is also a route through the Valle del Genal, coinciding with the changing colours of the chestnut trees during autumn; a visit to the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, scheduled for January 17, coinciding with the arrival of flamingos; the acequia path and the Guadalmina River, in San Pedro Alcántara; and a route through Conejeras, in the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. The calendar also includes a route through Istán and Sierra Blanca, the Caminito del Rey, and as new features of this edition, a proposal in the Pico de Mijas, with panoramic views of the coast, and an activity in the area of Mujeres en las Veredas, in Sierra Blanca, which will close the program on May 9.
