The San Pedro Alcántara Popular Race celebrates its 30th edition on October 12 with a route of five kilometres along the promenade. The organisation hopes to exceed last year's 850 participants and reach a thousand.
The San Pedro Alcántara Popular Race will celebrate its thirtieth edition on October 12 starting at 10:00 AM, with an urban route of five kilometres along the promenade. The event was presented by the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, the Marbella City Council's Sports Councillor, Lisandro Vieytes, and the president of the San Pedro Athletics Club, Antonio García. It is held in memory of Julio García Cruz, the founder of the sports entity, as reported by Diario Sur.
The registration period will remain open until October 10 and is managed through Dorsal Chip. To date, 750 people have registered, about 150 more than in the same period last year. With these figures, the organisation is confident of exceeding the 850 registrations from the previous edition and even reaching a thousand participants.
The deputy mayor recalled the race's connection with the local patron festivities and its three-decade history. For his part, Vieytes noted that more than 25 sporting events have been held in San Pedro Alcántara this year and encouraged athletes to participate.
“The goal is to establish the city as a reference destination for international, national, and regional competitions, alongside initiatives promoted by local clubs,” the councillor emphasised.
The event includes 17 male and female categories, as well as a specific category for people with disabilities and another for young children. The club president has indicated that it will be “a special day for all participants.”
The day will maintain its charitable aspect with a bar managed by Arama and the collaboration of the Luna Blanca association to collect shoes and sports equipment destined for Senegal.
