The Huelva-born David de Miranda triumphed again in the bullring of Málaga a year after his historic performance. The sixth bull from Juan Pedro Domecq allowed him to deliver a performance that ended with him being carried out on shoulders.
The bullring of La Malagueta once again surrendered to David de Miranda this Thursday, exactly one year after the performance that changed the course of his career. The Huelva bullfighter, who in August 2025 received the Capote de Paseo from the mayor Francisco de la Torre as the winner of the Fair, repeated his exit through the Puerta Grande after mastering the sixth bull of the fight from Juan Pedro Domecq.
The afternoon, which also served as a celebration for the promotion of Málaga CF, did not have an easy start. The first three bulls from the ranch showed a lack of stamina and breed, which dampened the atmosphere of the event. However, the sixth changed the dynamic, and De Miranda was where he needed to be: firm, in front, and determined not to let the opportunity slip away.
Sebastián Castella starred in the first part of the fight with more pulse than continuity. He received the first bull with tempered verónicas, but the animal showed a worrying lack of strength. In the muleta, it passed with nobility without fully engaging, and a complete but rear thrust closed his first turn with little echo. With the fourth, better presented and with more air, he dedicated it to the public and started with statuesque moves and changes behind the back that awakened the crowd. The performance was sustained on the right horn, long but without gaining flight, and after a rear thrust, the box awarded a protested ear. A trophy that said more about the standard of the afternoon than about the performance itself.
Daniel Luque showed flashes of bullfighting, especially in the long finish to the second bull and in the chicuelinas with feet together before the fifth. With a bull very short of strength, he managed the charges at medium height and closed with tight manoletinas, but the sword deprived him of recognition. Before the fifth, of better quality, he managed to get it into the muleta first in rounds and then to the natural, and closed with his characteristic luquesinas. He needed several attempts with the sword and the prize ended in an ovation.
The fight, framed within the Feria de Málaga, left a bittersweet taste due to the lack of spirit of most of the herd, but De Miranda's epilogue reconciled the stands with the afternoon. The Huelva bullfighter, who last year collected the Capote de Paseo as the winner of the Fair, thus confirms his romance with a bullring that has become a talisman for him.
The next event of the Feria de Málaga is scheduled for the coming days, with the lineup yet to be confirmed. La Malagueta hopes to repeat the atmosphere and, who knows, another afternoon of Puerta Grande.
