The Ronda City Council is about to conclude a new free car park in the La UVA neighbourhood, on the site of the old Wholesale Market. The project, which exceeds €600,000, will free up around 60 spaces.

The Ronda City Council is finalising the works to open a new free car park in the La UVA neighbourhood, on the land that occupied the old Wholesale Market. The mayor, Mari Paz Fernández, and the councillor for Works, Concha Muñoz, have visited the area to check the progress of the works being carried out by the Ronda company Obrasport, S. L., the contractor for the project.

The new car park will offer around 60 spaces over an area of about 1,700 square metres, between Montellano and Curro Guillén streets. The project has involved an investment of nearly €600,000 and includes accessibility improvements, traffic reorganisation, and beautification of the surroundings.

The project began with the demolition of the old facilities and the removal of asbestos present in the area, a further step in the municipal plan to eliminate this material in other parts of Ronda.

More car parks underway

This car park will join the one planned in the La Harinera neighbourhood, where a road is being constructed to connect it with Almocábar and San Cristóbal, which will enable another hundred spaces. Work is also underway on a car park on Adif land, next to the train station, with about 207 spaces over more than 7,000 square metres and a fee of two euros per day to encourage turnover.

On Prado Street, in the San Francisco neighbourhood, a free car park with around 170 spaces is already operational, and in Campo del Nene another with about 70. The most ambitious project is the large underground car park beneath the old La Concepción barracks, with around 500 spaces and a large surface plaza, awarded to Onlyparking, S. L. for over 50 million euros.

With these initiatives, the City Council aims to expand the parking offer in various neighbourhoods of Ronda and alleviate congestion in the centre. The expectation is that the La UVA car park will be operational in the coming weeks, once the final touches are completed.
