The first phase of the Montaña del Deporte, in Los Pacos, has reached 50% completion. 56 parking spaces will be created and Flor de Loto street will be renovated.

The first phase of the Montaña del Deporte in Fuengirola has surpassed the midpoint of its planning. The mayor, Ana Mula, visited the green area of Los Pacos on Monday alongside councillors Rosa Ana Bravo and José Sánchez to check the progress of the works that began weeks ago.

The project, awarded to the company Maracof S. L. for €891,516.41, includes the renovation of Flor de Loto street and the creation of a parking area with capacity for 56 vehicles. This number exceeds the 50 spaces initially planned and adds to the more than 1,200 that the City Council has generated during the current term.

“The hardest work has already been completed, with the excavation of part of the old quarry, so the surface where the parking spaces will be located can now be seen,” the mayor explained during the visit.

The project was put out to public tender on January 23 and received bids from seven companies in the sector. The winning bid was awarded for about €100,000 less than the tender budget and has an execution period of 110 days, 39 days less than stipulated in the terms of reference.

This intervention is part of the transformation of the old Quarry Park into the Montaña del Deporte, a project that aims to make use of the 27,000 square meters of the site. In later phases, it is planned to create three zones or rings for sports practice, featuring an interactive goal, multipurpose courts, a climbing wall, calisthenics equipment, and children's and health-promoting attractions.

Shaded and resting areas will also be expanded with vegetation and awnings, along with walking areas for families and picnic spots. These actions will be carried out in successive phases until the complete renovation of the entire space is achieved.

The project started in 2022 with a design competition in which eight proposals were submitted. Now, with the first phase underway, the residents of Los Pacos and the rest of Fuengirola will see how this green space transforms into a recreational and sports area in the eastern part of the city.
