The historic centre of Benalmádena Pueblo will host a new edition of the Arab Souk from August 27 to 30, featuring falconry, workshops, concerts, and gastronomy. The event, organised by the Commerce Delegation, aims to boost local trade.
The Arab Souk will return to the streets of Benalmádena Pueblo from August 27 to 30 with a programme designed for all audiences. The Commerce Delegation of the Benalmádena Town Hall has organised four days in which crafts, gastronomy, music, and shows will take over various corners of the historic centre.
The Councillor for Commerce, Raúl Campos, has highlighted that “the Arab Souk is already one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Benalmádena Pueblo and a fantastic opportunity to bring life to our historic centre, attract visitors, and support the activity of our shops and establishments.”
One of the main new features of this edition is the falconry, which moves to Santa Cruz Square. From there, demonstrations and flights of birds of prey will take place throughout the market route, accompanied by explanatory talks and demonstrations to bring the public closer to these birds.
The little ones will have their space behind the church, with archery and pottery workshops, while in Calle Real, there will be henna and wood carving workshops, the latter led by the Málaga sculptor Kurt Romero. Additionally, the children's area will feature an eco-friendly carousel, game tables, and a photo space with period characters, all free of charge.
Music will be a highlight throughout the weekend. The group Al Folk will roam the streets with parades of Arabic music and belly dancers. On the nights of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting at 10:30 PM, the Andalusia Square will host concerts of Sephardic music by this group.
The gastronomic offerings will be spread across several points along the route. The Montebello parking area will host a tavern zone, while the area around the church will revive the Arabic tea house and medieval taverns, enhancing the typical atmosphere of this event.
Campos has invited “locals and visitors to stroll through the streets of Benalmádena Pueblo and enjoy a very complete programme, especially designed for families.” “We want the Souk to once again be a meeting point during these four days and contribute to boosting our commerce and hospitality while we enjoy one of the most charming corners of our municipality,” he concluded.
The Arab Souk will open its doors on Thursday, August 27 at 7:00 PM and will continue on Friday 28, Saturday 29, and Sunday 30 with activities at midday, in the afternoon, and at night in different spaces of the historic centre of Benalmádena Pueblo.
