The Meliá chain has inaugurated the Hacienda del Mar in Estepona and renovated the MIM Sotogrande, both five-star hotels. CEO Gabriel Escarrer highlights the commitment to quality tourism in the Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar area.

Meliá Hotels International has given a new boost to its presence in the Costa del Sol with the opening of two luxury establishments. These are the Hacienda del Mar in Estepona and the renovation of the MIM Sotogrande, located in the marina of the Cádiz urbanisation. Both hotels, classified as five stars, aim to position the area as a premium destination.

The chain's CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, explained that the focus on Sotogrande and Estepona responds to the demand for high-spending tourism. "We want to offer unique experiences that go beyond accommodation," he stated during the inauguration of the Hacienda del Mar, as reported by the Onda Cero Campo de Gibraltar station.

Renovation and new openings in the Costa del Sol

The MIM Sotogrande, now part of Meliá's MIM Collection, has undergone a thorough renovation to elevate its category. The hotel features an infinity pool that has become a reference point in the marina. Additionally, it offers top-level dining services, such as the Hincha restaurant, led by footballer Lionel Messi.

On the other hand, the Hacienda del Mar in Estepona includes a beach club and has been designed to integrate the quality of the complex with the natural surroundings of the Costa del Sol. Both establishments will generate local employment and boost the economy of the region, according to company sources.

Escarrer emphasised that the concept of a hotel has evolved: "We no longer only cater to the guest staying with us, but we open our doors to the local community with dining and leisure offers." This strategy aims to turn the hotels into attractions for both residents and visitors.

Impact on local tourism

Meliá's commitment to the Sotogrande and Estepona area reinforces quality tourism in the Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar. The chain anticipates that the two complexes will attract an international traveller profile, especially from markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia. "The Sotogrande-Meliá partnership is a guarantee of success," Escarrer affirmed.

For local residents, the opening of these hotels represents a job opportunity and a boost to the local economy. Furthermore, the range of restaurants and leisure services is expanding, benefiting both tourists and residents. The Estepona City Council has positively assessed the investment, which consolidates the municipality as a luxury destination.

The Meliá chain, headquartered in Mallorca, continues its expansion in southern Spain, where it already has several establishments. The company plans to keep growing in the region, although it has not revealed new projects at this time.

Those interested in enjoying these hotels can already book through the Meliá website. The Hacienda del Mar offers special opening packages, while the MIM Sotogrande is already operational with seasonal rates.
