The Patroness of Málaga, the Virgin of Victory, was transferred this Sunday in a dawn rosary from her sanctuary to the Cathedral, where she will remain for her September services.

The Virgin of Victory entered the Cathedral of Málaga at 9:45 AM this Sunday, after making the journey from her sanctuary in the Victoria neighbourhood in a dawn rosary that began at 8:00 AM. Just five minutes later, the image crossed the threshold of the 'chupitira' basilica amidst a shower of petals and the prayers of the faithful.

The procession, formed by the raised cross, two candle bearers, the body of acolytes, and the priest Antonio Eloy Madueño, parish priest of the church María Madre de Dios, made its way down Victoria Street while the faithful prayed the glorious mysteries. Nearly 80 bearers carried the throne, adorned with eight lanterns and flowers in shades of white and pink, while a drummer from the Maestro Eloy García music band of the Archconfraternity of Expiration marked the pace at key moments.

At 8:52 AM, the Patroness reached the Plaza de la Merced. In Granada Street, numerous faithful gathered to welcome her; there, the parish council of Santiago presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Next to El Pimpi, tenor Luis María Pacetti performed two versions of the 'Ave María', by Schubert and Caccini, while petals fell upon the image. The street was decorated with shawls, wrought iron lanterns, white carnations, and spearmint on the pavement.

Another highlight was the meeting in the Patio de los Naranjos with the Pilgrim Virgin of the Head, which has been touring municipalities in the province since August 16 as part of the Marian mission leading up to the eighth centenary of her apparition, to be celebrated in 2027. The penitentiary canon and rector of the basilica of Hope, Antonio Collado, received the procession and gave the blessing before the 10 AM mass.

The Virgin of Victory will remain in the Cathedral for her novena, which will be held from August 30 to September 7 with Eucharists at 8 PM. The preacher will be Gonzalo Martín Fernández, parish priest of the Virgen del Carmen church in Benalmádena Costa and diocesan delegate for Catechesis.

The solemnity on September 8 will begin at 11:30 AM with a seasonal mass presided over by the bishop of Málaga, José Antonio Satué, and in the afternoon, at 7:30 PM, the Patroness will return to her sanctuary in a procession of praise.
