An employee of a fruit shop in Torremolinos was arrested after a one-hour chase covering more than 100 kilometres that began in Benalmádena and ended on Victoria Street in Málaga, after colliding with several vehicles.
The driver of a fruit delivery van has been arrested after leading a chase of over 100 kilometres that lasted nearly an hour, from Benalmádena to the centre of Málaga. The events occurred on the night from Thursday to Friday, around three in the morning, when the driver ignored a police checkpoint and fled, putting other road users at risk.
According to police sources, officers signalled the van to stop in Benalmádena, but the driver accelerated and began an erratic journey through various municipalities on the Costa del Sol. During the escape, he drove through Benalmádena, headed to Fuengirola, returned to Benalmádena, and then took the motorway towards Málaga.
A journey of over 100 kilometres along the Costa del Sol
The chase continued without the driver relenting. He reached Rincón de la Victoria, where he turned around and returned in the opposite direction, entering La Cala del Moral before heading back towards the capital. His escape continued through the neighbourhood of El Palo and then along the Paseo de Sancha, until he accessed the area around the Alcazaba tunnel.
Finally, the officers managed to intercept the van on Victoria Street, in the heart of Málaga, bringing an end to a chase that lasted approximately an hour. During the flight, the individual reportedly collided with several vehicles, according to the same sources.
Possible drug use while driving
The arrested individual works at a fruit shop in Torremolinos and was driving the company van. His flight, according to the police version, may have been related to possible cocaine use before getting behind the wheel, as he aimed to avoid a drug detection test by the officers. This reckless behaviour could have had serious consequences for residents and drivers in the areas he passed through.
The chase forced officers to follow the vehicle through several municipalities in the province, covering a distance of over 100 kilometres that ended when the van was intercepted on Victoria Street. The arrested individual has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities while investigations into the damages caused to the vehicles he collided with are ongoing.
This incident highlights the importance of respecting police checkpoints and the risks of driving under the influence of drugs. Residents in the affected areas breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the chase ended without fatalities, although several vehicles were damaged.
