A young person with a disability entered the Opción Sampedreña office asking for help for a trip. The party donated the 1,000 euros raised at the San Bernabé fair.

The Valores association, which supports people with disabilities in San Pedro Alcántara, received a donation of 1,000 euros from Opción Sampedreña. The money was raised at the party's booth during the last San Bernabé Fair and Festivities in Marbella.

A gesture that started from a poster

It all began when a young user of Valores came to the Opción Sampedreña office with a poster asking for financial help for a trip. The request touched the heart of the party's executive, who decided to donate the entire proceeds from their fair booth.

"This is a story that struck a chord with us," explains the party's president, Mabel Domínguez. "It's a direct way to give back to the municipality a little of what they gave us at the fair."

Cultural trips around Andalusia

With the funds raised, Valores users will organise excursions to Andalusian capitals such as Málaga and Sevilla. These outings are not just mere entertainment: according to the association's president, Josefa Ortega, and the treasurer, Pilar Rodríguez, "through meals, snacks, and these outings, they interact directly with society, meet people on the street, and develop great behavioural discipline."

The group has already visited the Science Park of Granada, and now hopes to broaden their horizons. "If they are happy, we are happy," the leaders add.

Waiting list and needs

Valores currently serves 16 users, but has another ten people on a waiting list due to lack of space. "Parents come to us and it breaks our hearts to have to tell them no, but physically, they just can't fit," lament Ortega and Rodríguez. The association, which has two workers, is waiting to finish paying for an adapted van in order to hire another instructor.

The donation from Opción Sampedreña provides a boost for the trips, but the association still needs a larger space. In the meantime, the boys and girls of Valores are already dreaming of their next excursion.
