The Town Hall of Antequera inaugurates the exhibition 'Interpretations', featuring nearly thirty works from the Municipal Drawing and Painting Workshop, inspired by artists such as Klimt, Hopper, and Hockney. It will be open for visits from July 10 to 31.

The Town Hall Exhibition Hall in Antequera has been filled with colour and creativity with the inauguration of 'Interpretations', an exhibition that brings together the work from the last course of the Municipal Drawing and Painting Workshop. The mayor, Manuel Barón, and the councillor for Culture, José Medina Galeote, presided over the event, which featured around thirty works created by the students of the workshop led by Fátima Morente.

A personal look at the greats of art

The exhibited pieces are free interpretations of works by Gustav Klimt, Edward Hopper, David Hockney, and Tamara de Lempicka, among others. Each student has contributed their unique vision, reinterpreting classic and contemporary styles with techniques learned during the course. The exhibition, open from July 10 to 31 in the afternoons, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Monday to Friday, is the crowning achievement of a year of work.

Mayor Manuel Barón congratulated teacher Fátima Morente, councillor José Medina, and all participants, highlighting “the art they contribute throughout the year through their canvases.” Barón emphasised Morente's trajectory at the helm of the workshop, a role she has been developing for nearly two decades, training generations of local artists.

Effort and perseverance: the fruit of a year of classes

The councillor for Culture, José Medina Galeote, valued the ongoing work behind the exhibition. “The work is developed by painting, creating, and dedicating time to painting and drawing. This exhibition is the result of a whole year of effort, classes, and perseverance,” he stated. Medina also highlighted the Town Hall's commitment to these initiatives, which turn the people of Antequera into “potential artists.”

For her part, teacher Fátima Morente thanked the Town Council for the opportunity to exhibit the works and praised “the work, perseverance, and enthusiasm” of her students. She invited locals to visit the exhibition “as many times as they want” during the afternoons it will be open. Admission is free, allowing anyone interested to come and enjoy these artistic reinterpretations.

For art lovers in Antequera, this exhibition is a unique opportunity to see how local talent interacts with the great masters. Additionally, it serves as a showcase for the municipal workshop, which each year attracts new students eager to learn and express themselves through painting. Who knows if among these canvases lies the next great artist of the region.
