The Town Hall of Antequera has received two bids for the second tender of the restoration works of the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, with a budget of €990,802. The companies TRIA S.L. and Actúa Infraestructuras are competing in the process, as confirmed by Mayor Manuel Jesús Barón.

The Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor in Antequera faces its second opportunity for restoration. The Town Hall has received two bids in the new tender for the works, with a base budget of €990,802.05. The companies TRIA S.L. and Actúa Infraestructuras have entered the competition, as confirmed by the mayor, Manuel Jesús Barón Ríos, who announced that the contracting committee has already made the award, pending official communication.

This is the second attempt to tender this project, one of the most significant investments in historical heritage in the province this year. The first call was deserted after the two bids submitted were excluded from the process. Among them was the bid from TRIA S.L., which was discarded for not specifying that its budget did not include VAT. The process has thus accumulated several months of delay in a project that has faced difficulties in starting since its initial call.

A project funded by the 2% Cultural

The budget for the restoration amounts to €990,802.05, VAT included. The project is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda through the 2% Cultural programme, which contributes €743,101.54, 75% of the total. The Town Hall of Antequera covers the remaining 25%, about €247,700. The state funding comes from resources generated by public works of the State, aimed at the conservation of Spanish Historical Heritage. The expected execution period is twelve months.

The works will focus on the main façade and the roofs of the temple. Cleaning and restoration of the stone, consolidation of deteriorated architectural elements, and reintegration of volumes in the most damaged areas are planned. The existing structure of the roofs will be repaired, waterproofing will be applied, and it will be re-tiled with ceramic curved tiles similar to the current ones. Additionally, protective treatments will be applied to enhance the overall durability of the building.

The monument will remain open to the public

The mayor, Manuel Jesús Barón Ríos, confirmed that the contracting committee met last week and has already resolved the award. The Town Hall has contacted the selected company to request the necessary documentation and thus complete its bid, a procedure that must be resolved within ten days. The name of the awarded company will not be made public until the official communication from the administration is formalised.

The Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor is one of the most representative buildings of the historical heritage of the province of Málaga and a reference of the Renaissance in Andalusia. The intervention aims to ensure the stability of the temple, whose façades and roofs show deterioration due to the passage of time and the action of environmental agents. The Town Hall has stated that the monument will continue to receive tourist visits during the execution of the works.

The start date for the works is set by the Ministry before 21 September 2026. Before that date, the awarded company must submit the pending documentation in August and formalise the contract to begin the works on the façade and roofs of one of the most prominent Renaissance temples in the province of Málaga.
