The Torremolinos Town Hall has installed a four-metre giant bench and a panoramic bench in Cañada del Lobo, aiming to enhance nature tourism and provide new resting spots with views of the bay of Málaga.
Cañada del Lobo, one of the most emblematic natural sites in Torremolinos, now features two new attractions: a four-metre-wide giant bench and a panoramic bench. Both, made entirely of wood, aim to blend into the landscape and offer hikers and visitors a place to stop and contemplate the surroundings.
The mayor, Margarita del Cid, and the councillor for the Environment, Francisco Cerdán, have visited the new installations, which add to the municipality's natural leisure offerings. According to the Town Hall, the initiative aims to enhance the scenic appeal of the mountains and promote awareness of the local natural heritage.
A giant bench and a panoramic one to contemplate the bay
The giant bench, located near the viewpoint of Cañada del Lobo, has dimensions that are hard to miss: four metres wide, 1.30 metres high at the seat, and 2.40 metres tall overall. It is not an ordinary piece of urban furniture but a designed element intended to attract attention and become a landmark for photography enthusiasts.
The second bench, of the panoramic type, measures 2.06 metres in length and has been placed on the ascent towards the natural area. Both are made of wood, allowing them to visually and chromatically integrate with the mountainous landscape, dominated by pines and Mediterranean scrub.
For the residents of Torremolinos, these benches are not just a place to sit. They are an invitation to rediscover a space that many consider familiar, yet offers corners with spectacular views over the bay of Málaga. For tourists, they provide another incentive to lace up their hiking boots.
Nature tourism and outdoor health
This initiative is part of a municipal strategy to boost nature tourism in the Sierra de Torremolinos, a space that, according to the Town Hall, receives thousands of hikers each year attracted by its ecological, geological, and forestry richness, as well as its proximity to the urban centre.
The Environment delegation highlights that these new observation points contribute to valuing a natural space of great scenic wealth, creating new interests that invite respectful exploration of the environment. Additionally, they promote the practice of healthy outdoor activities, such as hiking or simple contemplative walks.
The initiative also has an environmental awareness component: by bringing citizens closer to these viewpoints, it aims to raise awareness about the biodiversity of the area and the importance of conserving these landscapes for future generations. In short, besides sitting down, it’s time to reflect.
A historic viewpoint gaining new attractions
Cañada del Lobo is not a newcomer to the province's route map. Its ecological richness and views over the bay of Málaga have made it one of the most visited hiking destinations. With these benches, the Town Hall hopes that visitors will stop a little longer, take a deep breath, and perhaps snap a photo that will likely end up on Instagram.
Mayor Margarita del Cid emphasised during the visit that these elements enhance the experience of those walking the trails, while also valuing the municipality's natural heritage. Councillor Francisco Cerdán added that the benches are tools to bring citizens closer to understanding their environment, raising awareness about its conservation.
For the residents of Torremolinos, these benches are a new reason to feel proud of their mountains. For visitors, they provide a perfect excuse to plan a weekend getaway. However, it will be necessary to rise early to secure a spot on the giant bench, which promises to be the new natural 'photocall' of the Costa del Sol.
