The Torremolinos City Council will open Cañada del Lobo and Parque de la Batería on August 12 to observe the solar eclipse, distributing 1,000 approved glasses and safety devices.
The municipality of Torremolinos is all set for residents and visitors to enjoy the solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12. The City Council will enable two municipal spaces, Cañada del Lobo and Parque de la Batería, as safe and orderly observation points, with free distribution of 1,000 approved glasses.
The choice of these two locations responds to different profiles: Cañada del Lobo will offer an experience linked to the natural and scenic environment, while Parque de la Batería presents itself as an urban space, accessible and designed for the general and family audience. In the latter, chairs will be installed for the comfort of attendees.
The councillor for the Environment, Francisco Cerdán, has emphasised that the aim is to "facilitate that residents and visitors can enjoy an exceptional event in two emblematic places in Torremolinos, but to do so with planning, safely and especially respecting the natural environment of Cañada del Lobo."
The activity will begin at 18:30, when attendees will be welcomed and glasses will be distributed. In Cañada del Lobo, the shelter will remain open from 19:00 to 21:30 for restroom use, and special attention will be paid to the protection of the natural environment, fire prevention, and access regulation.
The eclipse will be partial in Torremolinos, but of great intensity: it will begin around 19:43 and reach its maximum phase at 20:38, when nearly 95% of the solar disc will be obscured. Once finished, at 21:30, an orderly evacuation of the spaces will be facilitated.
The City Council has coordinated with the Local Police, Civil Protection, and forest agents to ensure that the event proceeds without incidents, with the collaboration of Aselimsa and Litosa.
Authorities remind that one should never look directly at the Sun without proper protection, and that conventional sunglasses, cameras, binoculars, or telescopes without certified filters are not safe. To access Cañada del Lobo, it is recommended to do so in advance, as access is on foot and the path requires physical effort.
It is also advised to bring a charged flashlight or headlamp for the night descent, sturdy closed hiking shoes, sufficient water, and appropriate clothing, as temperatures in the mountains drop quickly at night.
