The Vicente Espinel Theatre in Ronda is facing the largest investment in refurbishment since it opened its doors in 1994. The City Council has allocated 105,000 euros this year to repair and modernise the cultural facility, as announced by the delegate for Works, Concha Muñoz.
The largest portion, around 60,000 euros, has been set aside for the repair of the building's roofs, which were severely damaged by the series of storms last winter. The rains caused the waterproofing to virtually disappear and significant dampness appeared inside, affecting the auditorium, the stage, and even the dressing rooms.
To address this repair, the council has requested aid from both the Junta de Andalucía and the Government of Spain. Muñoz explained that these funds will be used for a comprehensive upgrade of the municipal facilities.
Additionally, 30,000 euros have been allocated for the interior and exterior painting of the building, work that has already begun and will last for three weeks. The improvement plan also includes the renewal of the outdated air conditioning system, and a budget of 15,000 euros for the dressing rooms and backstage area.
“We are undertaking a historic intervention. According to the data we have, since this theatre was inaugurated in 1994, no such investment has been made for its refurbishment,” Muñoz highlighted. The municipal official emphasised that these cultural facilities are “very important” for the city.
The expectation is that all works will be completed by the start of the next cultural season. “It has been 32 years of cultural service to all the people of Ronda, and I believe that starting from the September season we will be able to enjoy perfectly refurbished facilities with a greatly improved appearance,” concluded the delegate.
