A truck fire on the AP-7 at the Guadalmansa River has forced traffic to be cut in both directions. Firefighters and Infoca have worked to prevent the flames from spreading to forested areas.
A truck caught fire this afternoon on the AP-7, at the Guadalmansa River, between the municipalities of Benahavís and Estepona. The incident, which occurred shortly after 17:00 hours, has led to the closure of the motorway in both directions and mobilised a large emergency response.
Intervention by Firefighters and Infoca
Personnel from the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Málaga have been dispatched to the scene, with four fire trucks and ten firefighters, according to the Marbella City Council. Infoca has also intervened, deploying a light helicopter, 18 ground personnel, and two fire engines to prevent the flames from reaching the surrounding vegetation.
The dense black smoke has been visible from several kilometres away, causing alarm among drivers in the area. Authorities have diverted traffic to the A-7, resulting in significant delays, especially between San Pedro Alcántara and Marbella.
Second Truck Fire in a Week
This is the second truck fire on the motorway in the Marbella area in just a week. Last Monday, January 6, a similar incident was reported, although in that case, it was not necessary to close the road. The recurrence of these incidents is concerning for regular drivers on the AP-7, who see their mobility affected.
Traffic has remained closed for several hours while emergency teams worked on extinguishing the fire and removing the damaged vehicle. By 20:00 hours, Infoca confirmed that the flames were extinguished without affecting forested areas, although a surveillance operation remains on site to complete the tasks.
Consequences for Residents of the Costa del Sol
For residents and tourists of the Costa del Sol Occidental, the closure of the AP-7 has caused considerable disruption, as this road is one of the main communication arteries between municipalities such as Marbella, Estepona, and Benahavís. Drivers have had to seek alternative routes via the A-7, which has been congested for hours.
The Marbella City Council advises drivers to check traffic conditions before setting out and to exercise caution in the area, where remnants of the fire may still remain. The AP-7 is expected to fully reopen in the coming hours, once maintenance services verify that there is no risk to traffic.
