The city of Antequera hosts around twenty cultural activities during the month of July, featuring jazz, blues and flamenco concerts, exhibitions and workshops for all audiences. Most events are outdoors and free of charge.
Summer has settled in Antequera and with it, a cultural programme that promises to liven up the nights of July. More than twenty activities, mostly outdoors and free, will turn the city into a stage for jazz, blues, flamenco and exhibitions. The City Council of Antequera has coordinated an agenda that kicks off this Friday, July 3, and runs until the end of the month, with proposals for all tastes and ages.
Jazz, blues and flamenco: the soundtrack of Antequera's summer
One of the highlights is the Nájera Jazz 2026 cycle, which will take place on July 9, 10 and 11 at the City Museum. Performers such as Valdés Brothers and Francis Posé, Jitterburg Jazz Group and Bernaldez Latin Jazz Orchestra will take the stage, all at 21:30. Admission is free until capacity is reached, according to municipal sources.
Flamenco will also have its space with the VII Porra Flamenca de Cartaojal on July 10, and the XXVII Noche Flamenca on July 11, both at Bar Casa Caro in the district. For blues lovers, the Antequera Blues Festival returns on July 31 and August 1 in Santa María, featuring performances by ‘The Lazy Tones’, ‘Anna Dukke’, ‘Haylen’ and ‘Los Deltonos’.
“This summer's cultural offer is varied and of high quality, designed for both locals and visitors to enjoy the city,” officials from the Antequera City Council state.
Exhibitions that look to the past and present
Until July 12, the Antequera City Museum hosts the exhibition ‘Antonio Mohedano. The brush that opened a time. 400 years of light and devotion’, open from 10 to 18 hours. At the Unicaja Foundation Cultural Centre, you can visit ‘The Bullfighting of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes’ until July 26, from Monday to Saturday from 10 to 14 and 16 to 19 hours, and Sundays from 10 to 14 hours.
The exhibition ‘The Topography of Gesture’, by Noelia García Bandera, will remain at the Sacristy Space until January 31, 2027, coinciding with the opening hours of the Church of San Juan de Dios. These three exhibitions offer a journey from the Baroque to contemporary creation.
Workshops, yoga and a light festival for the youth
The youth audience has specific events: on Thursday, July 16, at 21:00, ‘Yoga & Esencias’ will be held in Atalaya Park, aimed at young people aged 14 to 30. On July 23, at the same time and place, ‘Mood Yoga & Journaling’ will be repeated. Both activities are free and do not require prior registration, according to the organisers.
The Antequera Light Fest, on July 17 and 18, promises to be one of the most eye-catching events of the month, with light installations and performances at various points in the city. Additionally, on Wednesday, July 8, a workshop on hate on social media will be held at the Social Services Building at 19:00, an initiative to combat misinformation and hate speech among the youth.
Barrios B’6 and the Gran Prix: tradition and entertainment
The Barrios B’6 programme brings music back to the streets. On Friday, July 3, Julio Orellana will perform in the Callejón Esparteros in the Vera Cruz neighbourhood; on July 10, Los Pacos will play in Plaza de Santiago; and on September 18, Pablo DMagic will close the cycle in Plaza del Espíritu Santo in the San Miguel neighbourhood. All performances start at 22:00.
On Saturday, July 24, at 20:00, the Bullring will host the Gran Prix, a competition of traditional games that promises fun for the whole family. And for those who prefer a festive atmosphere, the Sarao Fest on Saturday, July 4, from 19:00 to 02:00, also in the Bullring, will offer music and dancing.
The Indiant Festival on July 30 in Santa María will close the month with performances by Júlbez Urrutia, Las Dianas and Denis Denis. A programme, in short, that turns Antequera into a cultural hotspot during the month of July, with options for all budgets.
