The Antequera Light Fest returns on July 17 and 18 with light and music shows in five locations in the historic centre, with performances every half hour.
The light and music festival celebrating the declaration of the Dolmens as World Heritage returns to fill the streets of Antequera with colour. The Antequera Light Fest will take place on the nights of July 17 and 18, from 22:30 to 2:00, and will feature five performance spaces distributed throughout the historic centre.
Five stages for a magical night
The programme includes mapping shows, music, and a permanent light installation. In the Plaza San Luis, DJ Light will perform, with shows every 30 minutes. The Town Hall Patio will host Music Party Universe, also with continuous sessions.
The Plaza de San Sebastián will be the stage for The Fire of History, a mapping that reviews the history of the city. At Cuesta de San Judas, visitors can enjoy Rain of Light, a permanent installation that can be visited without prior booking.
The interior of the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor will host Luminare Andalucía Antequera Light Festival, an immersive show that combines light and sound in a monumental setting.
Timings and recommendations for the public
According to the organisers, all shows (except the permanent installation) will offer performances every 30 minutes from 22:30 to 2:00. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a good spot, especially in the busier areas like the Colegiata.
The Rain of Light installation at Cuesta de San Judas is freely accessible and continuous, so it can be visited at any time during the festival hours. The Antequera Town Hall has set up a special traffic and security device to facilitate pedestrian access and avoid crowds.
A festival that grows every year
The Antequera Light Fest was born in 2017 to commemorate the declaration of the Dolmens Site as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and since then it has established itself as one of the most important cultural events of the summer in the region. Each edition attracts thousands of visitors, both locals and tourists, who stroll through the historic centre to enjoy the projections and music.
For the people of Antequera, the festival is an opportunity to rediscover their heritage from an artistic and contemporary perspective. Local residents can take the chance to walk around and see the shows for free, as access to all spaces is open.
The Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor is one of the most prominent Renaissance temples in Andalusia, and during the festival, its interior becomes a unique projection room. Tickets for this space are limited, so it is recommended to check the Town Hall's website for reservations.
The festival will conclude both nights at 2:00, although the permanent installation at Cuesta de San Judas may remain visible for longer. The Town Hall has reminded that this is a family event and that the rest of the neighbours should be respected.
