The image has set out this Saturday from San Pedro in an extraordinary rosary for its 325 years of foundation, on the platform lent by the Málaga brotherhood.
The Virgin of Consolation has travelled this afternoon through the streets of Antequera on the transfer throne of the Captive of Málaga, in an extraordinary evening rosary with which the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Mercy and Our Lady of Consolation commemorates 325 years since its foundation.
The departure from the church of San Pedro is one of the central events of the extraordinary anniversary programme. For this occasion, the Antequera brotherhood reached an agreement with the Captive corporation to use some very recognisable platforms from Holy Week in the capital of Málaga.
The route takes the image through a good part of its parishioners and the historic centre, with the church of Our Lady of Remedies as one of the main points. There, the rosary is prayed before the patroness of the city before returning to San Pedro.
Streets such as Lucena, Mancilla, Merecillas, Laguna, Tercia, Infante Don Fernando, Cantareros, Duranes, Toril, Juan Adame, Botica, Doncellas, Obispo, Hornos, or Lozana are part of a route designed to share the anniversary with the whole city.
The link with Málaga is not limited to the lending of the throne. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Virgen de la Trinidad Symphonic Band, on a day when the brotherhood traditions of both cities intertwine.
Hours before the departure, the square of San Pedro hosted the blessing and unveiling of a tile dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation, created by the ceramist Luis Manuel López Hernández, based on a photograph of the commemorative poster made by Raúl Pérez.
The new ceramic altarpiece remains as a permanent reminder of the 325 years of the corporation.
The blessing was attended by the parish priest Francisco Aurioles, representatives of the brotherhood, and numerous devotees who gathered in the square.
The extraordinary programme will continue in the coming days with new services in San Pedro, culminating on September 4, the feast of Our Lady of Consolation.
