The Antequera City Council announces the completion of the Municipal Brush Clearing Plan 2026, which has operated in over 300,000 square metres of neighbourhoods, rural areas, and uncultivated land. Deputy Mayor Teresa Molina indicates that there may be targeted interventions if the rains reactivate vegetation.
The Antequera City Council has concluded the Municipal Brush Clearing Plan 2026, an initiative that has covered more than 300,000 square metres in neighbourhoods, rural areas, and other spaces within the municipality. The Deputy Mayor responsible for Maintenance, Teresa Molina, has reported the completion of work focused on cleaning and removing spontaneous vegetation from municipal plots and uncultivated areas.
The interventions have taken place over the last few months with particular attention to peripheral neighbourhoods and rural nuclei, where proximity to the countryside encourages the growth of grasses and weeds. Once dry, this vegetation can increase the risk of fire, making the work preventive and also contributing to the health and preservation of public spaces.
The areas of action have included the surroundings of the Athletics Technification Centre, Verónica Park, and various areas of El Maulí; Fuentemora, Santa Catalina, and Altos de Santa Catalina; García Prieto, Nueva Andalucía, and Alminares; Santa María, the back of Saeta street and Herradores street; the neighbourhood of Carmen and Moraleda; the slopes of the Veracruz hermitage and the Manuel Flores neighbourhood; as well as the Traffic Children's Park.
Interventions have also taken place in the neighbourhoods of Dólmenes, Los Remedios, and the area around the cemetery; the backs of Parra street and Alcalá street; the fairground and the market area; Paseo de los Colegiales, Bellavista, and García de Yegros; the neighbourhood of San Juan, Palomos street, the Mirador area, and the Santa Lucía site; the El Molino urbanisation; and the area of the industrial estate and the bypass.
In the northern rural areas, the plan has covered Bobadilla, Colonia de Santa Ana, Los Llanos, Cañadas de Pareja, and Cartaojal. In the southern area, the actions have included Los Nogales, La Joya, La Higuera, Villanueva de Cauche, Puerto del Barco, and Las Lagunillas. These spaces also include the healthy paths of Matagrande, Arquillas, and Veracruz, as well as the area of Nacimiento.
Molina has explained that these are periodic actions that the Maintenance Area carries out annually to keep the plots and uncultivated areas in good condition, both in the city and its rural areas.
"The Municipal Brush Clearing Plan is complemented by other maintenance work carried out through the PFEA programmes, as well as cleaning and maintenance of waterways"
Although this edition is considered complete, the Deputy Mayor has indicated that, by the end of the year, targeted interventions may be undertaken in those plots where the rains encourage new vegetation growth. These tasks will be carried out under the coordination and monitoring of the municipal Maintenance services, depending on the needs identified.
