The Antequera City Council has coordinated an operation with more than 300 personnel for the Real Feria de Agosto, which will take place from August 19 to 23, featuring new measures such as an emergency plan and increased police presence.
This year, the Real Feria de Agosto in Antequera will have a reinforced security device mobilising over 300 personnel. This was agreed upon on Thursday, August 13, during the meeting of the Local Security Board chaired by the mayor, Manolo Barón, with representatives from the Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Government Subdelegation, North Málaga Health Area, Provincial Fire Consortium, and Red Cross.
The operation, which will be deployed from August 19 to 23, includes as a main novelty the creation of a Specific Emergency Plan for the entire fair, along with a specific preventive plan for the closing day, coinciding with the drone show scheduled for the last night.
The Local Police will enhance their presence with an increase in foot patrols both in the Paseo Real and the fairgrounds. Additionally, the Local Police's drone service will remain operational, carrying out preventive tasks not only in the celebration areas but also in residential zones and other points within the municipality. The Canine Unit will also be active, focusing on preventing drug consumption and trafficking.
In terms of health services, the operation will have permanent coverage in the Paseo Real and the fairgrounds, with two operational ambulances throughout the fair. As a new feature, the altruistic collaboration of ESCID – Grupo SIFU will install three automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on the busiest days.
These defibrillators will be located at the Civil Protection stand in the Paseo Real, next to the platform for people with reduced mobility in the concert area, and in the Local Police and Civil Protection offices at the fairgrounds. Civil Protection will also carry out its campaign for identification bracelets for minors, to facilitate their location in case of loss.
The planning takes into account the main risks of a mass celebration: large gatherings of people, traffic regulation and access, the transit of horses and carriages, high temperatures, fire prevention, falls and accidents, or incidents due to excessive alcohol consumption. Mayor Manolo Barón has highlighted the importance of coordination among all the administrations and bodies involved, and has thanked the prior work to ensure that Antequera enjoys its fair with maximum guarantees.
