The Peña Caballista Mijas is organising a new edition of its night route on Saturday, August 29, departing from El Esparragal at 20:30. The route, lasting about three hours, will take place in the rural surroundings of the municipality.
The Peña Caballista Mijas is once again calling for one of its most anticipated events of the summer: the XIV Horse Riding Route by Full Moon Light, which will be held next Saturday, August 29, departing at 20:30 from the entity's headquarters in El Esparragal. The activity, which is supported by the Town Hall, proposes a night route of approximately three hours through the rural paths of the municipality.
The councillor for Livestock, Eloy Belmonte, has highlighted the unique nature of a proposal that is already established in the equestrian calendar of Mijas. “It is a completely different route”, he noted, emphasising that at night “you enjoy the countryside in a different way, with less noise, fewer vehicles, and a much calmer atmosphere.”
The itinerary will depart from El Esparragal towards the Fuengirola River and then continue to Arroyo Seco, with several stops before heading back. The vice president of the Peña Caballista, José Sedeño Porra, explained that it is an accessible route, primarily designed to enjoy the horse and the surroundings: “We hope everything goes wonderfully and that we enjoy it as we do every year.”
Participation is open to all enthusiasts, whether or not they are members of the association. This was reiterated by the president of the entity, Ana Guerrero, who emphasised that the route “is highly anticipated by all horse riders because it is especially relaxing and allows us to enjoy a very beautiful night of camaraderie.” “You don’t need to be a member”, she insisted.
During the route, there will be refreshment points, and the organisation will provide veterinary and farrier assistance. The day includes three drinks and three small sandwiches for a price of 10 euros. Advance registrations will allow the organisation to make an appropriate forecast of participants and supplies.
The route is suitable for riders with different levels of experience, and minors and horse-drawn carriages can also participate. Attendees will have a QR code with the route to follow it from their mobile phones.
The councillor has praised the behaviour of participants in previous editions and the importance of balancing these activities with the care of the rural environment. “We must enjoy our fields, but we must also protect them,” he stated, highlighting that special care is taken to ensure no waste is left along the route.
Belmonte has framed this new edition within the effort to restore the prominence of equestrian tradition in Mijas. “Little by little, we are taking steps to return it to the place it has always had in Mijas,” he concluded, thanking the ongoing collaboration of the Peña Caballista.
