The Town Hall of Antequera will begin on July 6 the second phase of the annual cockroach and insect control campaign, focusing on public areas and the sanitation network.

The Town Hall of Antequera will launch on July 6 the second phase of the annual cockroach and other insect control campaign, an action coordinated by the Environment Area that continues the work started on April 16. The aim is to reduce the proliferation of pests during the hottest months, when high temperatures favour the emergence of these insects.

The treatments will be carried out by the specialised company CHEMAP and will focus on public areas, the sanitation network, and other sensitive points. The City Council explains that these actions are scheduled each year coinciding with the rise in temperatures, when the presence of these types of insects increases.

The Councillor for the Environment, María Enrile, has stated that this second phase will allow for the completion of the usual treatments and to act in those places where new needs may be detected throughout the summer. In the first phase, which took place in April, over 200 points in the municipality were treated, including parks, gardens, and container areas.

The Town Hall has also requested the collaboration of the public to improve the effectiveness of the campaign. In this regard, it recommends keeping patios, garages, vacant lots, ground floors, and common areas of residential communities clean, avoiding accumulations of dirt, moisture, or debris that may encourage the emergence of insects.

The Environment Area reminds that these actions are part of the annual pest prevention planning aimed at maintaining adequate health conditions in public spaces of the municipality during spring and summer. The campaign is complemented by treatments in schools and municipal buildings, which are carried out periodically.

Residents who detect insect hotspots in public areas can report them to the Town Hall via the citizen service phone or the electronic headquarters, so that technicians can assess the need to act in those specific points. The forecast is that the work of this second phase will last several weeks, depending on weather conditions and the evolution of the pests.
