The Civil Guard has confirmed that the 17-year-old girl who went missing on Sunday in Puerto Banús is the victim of the fatal accident that occurred early Monday morning on the A-7 near La Cala de Mijas.
The Civil Guard has confirmed that the 17-year-old Norwegian girl whose disappearance mobilised her family and security forces since Sunday night died in the accident recorded early this Monday on the A-7, near La Cala de Mijas.
The young woman had last been seen at the Funky Buddha nightclub in Puerto Banús, after celebrating with other Norwegian youths the victory of her country's team in the football World Cup. The proximity of the disappearance location and the accident site led agents to link both events from the very beginning, according to sources in the investigation.
Accident without driver arrest
The accident occurred around 5:20 AM at kilometre 1.027 of the A-7, heading towards Marbella. Several witnesses alerted the emergency services 112 that a woman had been struck by a truck. One of the callers indicated that the vehicle's driver did not stop after the impact.
Emergency services from the 061 Health Emergency Centre, the Civil Guard Traffic unit, and the road maintenance service were dispatched to the scene. The medical personnel could only certify the young woman's death.
Investigation underway
The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident and determine the causes. The identification of the body has confirmed that the deceased was the missing minor, bringing an end to the search that her family had initiated, requesting public assistance.
The incident has shocked the Norwegian community on the Costa del Sol, especially among the youths who had gathered to follow the World Cup. The Puerto Banús area and the A-7 are common routes for nighttime traffic, and this tragic outcome serves as a reminder of the risks of travelling by road after a night of celebrations.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the involved truck to contact the Civil Guard Traffic unit. Meanwhile, the young woman's family is receiving psychological and consular support.
