The Mijas Town Council allocates €50,000 for university transport grants and increases the amounts by up to 50%. Applications can be submitted from this Friday, August 21.
The Mijas Town Council has approved a new call for university transport aid grants with a total budget of €50,000, a figure higher than that executed in the last edition. The bases will be published this Thursday in the Official Bulletin of the Province, so interested parties can submit their applications starting tomorrow, Friday, August 21, and for the following fifteen working days.
The Councillor for Youth, Melisa Ceballos, explained that the total amount exceeds the €44,540 that were distributed in the previous call. Additionally, the aid line has changed from four to three tiers, as the one aimed at higher incomes, which had an allocation of €100, has been eliminated.
The remaining three tiers see their amounts significantly increased. Tier 1, for the lowest incomes, rises from €440 to €550 (25% more); Tier 2 increases from €300 to €450, representing a 50% increase; and Tier 3 goes from €160 to €200, with a 25% rise.
“The support from the Mijas Town Council for university students in need of transport grants is not only renewed but increased,” Ceballos pointed out. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis, meaning that applications are addressed based on the family income level and not on a first-come, first-served basis.
To calculate family income, data from the State Agency for Tax Administration and the municipal register of inhabitants of Mijas will be taken into account. Among the requirements, applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old and have been registered in the municipality for at least the five years prior to the call.
Furthermore, it is necessary to have been enrolled in a regulated and in-person university academic modality during the 2025-2026 academic year, and the educational institution cannot be located in Mijas. It is also required to be enrolled in a minimum of 36 credits and to have passed at least 50% of the credits enrolled in the established course.
Those who have already benefited from other grants or aids covering the same need in the same academic period, or who find themselves in any of the circumstances outlined in the General Subsidies Law, will not be eligible. Since the transport has already been carried out upon publication of the call, the documentation provided will serve as proof of compliance with the requirements.
Applications will be processed exclusively through the electronic headquarters of the Mijas Town Council during the fifteen working days from this Friday.
