The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, has presented the programme for La Noche en Vela 2026, which will turn the Historic Centre into a grand stage with concerts by David de María and Gonzalo Hermida.
Vélez-Málaga will celebrate a new edition of La Noche en Vela on August 29, an event that will transform the Historic Centre into a large outdoor stage from 20:00 to 03:00. The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, presented the programme this Thursday in the Plaza de las Carmelitas, accompanied by the councillors for Culture, Alicia Ramírez, and for Popular Traditions, Lourdes Piña, as well as the councillor for Seniors and the Historic Centre, Juan Fernández Olmo.
The evening will kick off at 20:00 in the Plaza de las Carmelitas with the official inauguration and a performance by the Málaga Symphony Orchestra. From 20:30, street parades will take to the streets with steampunk aesthetics, tunas, music bands, charangas, and verdiales, starting from the Carmelitas and touring various squares in the historic centre.
David de María and Gonzalo Hermida will be the main musical attractions at the Fortress, which will once again be the epicentre of the night. The former will perform at 00:00 and the latter at 01:45, while the group Play will take the stage at 22:15. The tower of the Fortress will be open for visits from 21:00 to 03:00.
The programme is divided into ten activity zones spread throughout the Historic Centre, featuring dance, circus, theatre, and fire shows. Highlights include the Dance and Light of Yué Wu in the Plaza de las Carmelitas, the hoop and fire show in the Plaza de la Constitución, and the circus proposal Re-cuerda at the viewpoint of the Wall. Calle Canalejas will host children's activities, musical theatre, and bubble shows.
Heritage will also play a leading role, with visits to the Convent of San Francisco, the Nazarí Mihrab Arch, the Beniel Palace, the María Zambrano Foundation, the Hermitage of the Remedies, the Parish of San Juan, Santa María, the Holy Week Museum, the Camarín de la Piedad, the Contemporary Art Centre, and the Fortress complex. The mayor emphasised that the programme includes proposals for all ages and tastes, so that “no one feels that La Noche en Vela is not for them.”
Local brotherhoods, associations, and guilds will set up bars along the route, and the Town Hall has planned a special device to ensure the celebration runs smoothly. La Noche en Vela has established itself as one of the most unique cultural events in the province, and this edition aims to consolidate it with an offer that combines music, performing arts, and heritage in a unique setting.
