The liquidation of the 2025 budget leaves a positive balance of 9,134,143.09 euros. The Town Hall will allocate it to cover the rise in water costs and to pay off debts.
The Town Hall of Vélez-Málaga has closed the liquidation of the 2025 budget with a positive surplus of 9,134,143.09 euros, a figure that continues the favourable result from the previous year and which, according to the Government team, strengthens the municipality's financial capacity.
The surplus will be used, among other purposes, to fully absorb the increase in the price of water supplied by Axaragua, the supplying company, which has updated its rates after more than ten years without changes. The increase reaches 40% and the Town Hall has decided not to pass it on to residents' bills, covering it from the municipal budget.
This increase is accompanied by a temporary surcharge resulting from the water supply from Málaga during the severe drought, caused by the water crisis and the state of the La Viñuela reservoir. This measure aims to prevent the extra cost from falling on households.
Additionally, the surplus will allow the Council to advance in the repayment of debts with financial entities, which, according to municipal sources, provides greater flexibility for new investments and projects in the municipality.
The result is the fruit of the work of the Finance Department, led by Manuel Gutiérrez, which has maintained sound accounts and an economic plan aimed at responding to the needs of Vélez-Málaga.
The positive liquidation thus becomes a tool to meet commitments and strengthen the Town Hall's capacity to act, without residents seeing an increase in their water bills.
