The María Zambrano Foundation is organising the first meeting of the María Zambrano Social Observatory on the future of democracy in Europe on 12 November in Vélez-Málaga.

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel García-Margallo and international analyst Eduardo Saldaña, co-director of El Orden Mundial, will participate on Thursday 12 November at 19:00 hours at the Centre for Studies on Exile in Vélez-Málaga.

The meeting, moderated by journalist and professor Teodoro León Gross, is the first event of the I María Zambrano Social Observatory, a forum of thought that the organisation aims to sustain over time.

The Councillor for Culture and trustee of the María Zambrano Foundation, Alicia Ramírez, has defended the choice of topic:

“We have chosen to start with a highly relevant issue, such as the future of our democracies.”

The programme will address Europe's role in the face of changes in the international balance, the loss of trust in institutions, the rise of authoritarianism, and political polarisation. It will also include the influence of major digital platforms and migration movements.

The foundation's manager, Luis Ortega, explains that the observatory seeks to bring the legacy of the thinker from Vélez to the current debate. The works “Persona y democracia” and “La agonía de Europa” are, according to the foundation, the references for this proposal.

Entry is free, but prior registration is required.
