The Civil Guard has carried out a significant operation in Benicarló, Castellón, dismantling a drug selling point led by a family clan. The action has resulted in the arrest of fifteen people related to public health crimes and membership in a criminal organisation.
During the searches carried out, various narcotic substances, firearms, and cash were seized. In total, the value of the confiscated goods exceeds 100,000 euros.
Details of the operation
The investigation, which began several months ago, revealed the ongoing activities of the clan in the distribution of illicit substances, primarily focused on cocaine and heroin. The agents identified several selling points operating from different properties located in the historic centre of Benicarló.
In total, the Civil Guard has confiscated cocaine, heroin, hashish, marijuana, crystal, and other derivatives. Additionally, the agents found specific materials for the preparation and distribution of drugs, such as precision scales and wrappings.
Irregularities in animal ownership
The operation also revealed serious irregularities concerning animal welfare. In two of the properties searched, nearly 180 fighting cocks were located, of which 48 were mutilated, as well as more than 40 dogs intended for hunting, many of which lacked identifying microchips.
Due to these findings, two of the detainees are being investigated by the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) for their alleged involvement in animal cruelty crimes, which has led to several sanction proposals for administrative violations.
The detainees and the seized goods have been placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority at the Tribunal de Instancia Plaza 3 of the Vinarós Courts. The operation involved various units of the Civil Guard, including the Judicial Police, investigation teams, and the Reserve and Security Group.
