The metropolitan transport reinforcement will come into effect on Monday 26th October with 36 additional daily services for Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar. It also includes direct services to Málaga capital.
From Monday 26th October, the buses connecting Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar with Málaga capital will have 36 more daily services. This measure, agreed upon after a meeting with the Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, responds to user complaints regarding the frequency of service since the municipality joined the Metropolitan Transport Consortium on 1st May.
According to the Consortium, the reinforcement means 14 more services in the Vélez-Málaga corridor, an increase of 23.7%, and 22 more in the Torre del Mar corridor, with a rise of 19%. Additionally, direct connections will be added from both areas to Málaga capital to reduce travel times.
The total number of metropolitan corridors between Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria, Los Rubios, Torre del Mar, and Vélez-Málaga will increase from 386 to 445 daily services, aiming to adapt the offer to demand, especially during peak hours.
The councillor of Vélez-Málaga Jesús María Claros, who has worked alongside the Transport councillor, Celestino Rivas, has argued that the growth in users required more services. Claros stated:
“Joining the Consortium was an opportunity to improve transport conditions, but it also highlighted the need to adapt frequencies to the reality of our residents.”
The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, also attended the meeting. Residents commuting to Málaga daily can now check the new schedules as the reinforcement comes into effect.
