Marbella has been the setting for a scientific meeting at the Costa del Sol University Hospital, where various strategies have been discussed to improve the quality of life for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This complex respiratory disease requires a comprehensive approach that considers several factors related to the patient's health.
Objectives of the event
The III Update Day on the Comprehensive Approach to COPD has been organised by the hospital's Pulmonology Service in collaboration with the Foundation for Research in Málaga in Biomedicine and Health (FIMABIS). The event brought together professionals from different specialties such as medicine, nursing, and physiotherapy, aiming to update knowledge and share experiences on the diagnosis and treatment of COPD.
During the event, relevant topics were discussed, such as the early detection of genetic alterations associated with the disease, as well as strategies to improve patient follow-up. Joaquín Cebrián, head of the Pulmonology Service, emphasised the importance of staying up to date with scientific advances to provide care tailored to each patient's needs.
Multidisciplinary perspectives
The meeting also addressed increasingly relevant topics, such as the relationship between COPD and gut health, the effects of climate change on respiratory symptoms, and the potential of telerehabilitation to facilitate access to specific respiratory rehabilitation programmes.
The event highlighted the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of COPD, considering both individual clinical characteristics and other factors that may influence the progression of the disease. Such events underscore the commitment of the Costa del Sol University Hospital to continuous updating in the health field, essential for advancing care for chronic respiratory diseases.
