In Málaga, the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia Navarro, participated in the events marking the celebration of Local Police Day. During the event, which took place at the Palace of Fairs and Congresses, Navarro highlighted the essential work of the officers in ensuring safety in the city.
Navarro explained that the responsibility for maintaining security is a shared duty and that the proximity of the Local Police to citizens contributes to peaceful coexistence in Málaga. "The Police not only work to reduce crime statistics, but also look after the care and protection of the most vulnerable citizens," she stated.
Functions and Challenges of the Local Police
The delegate also mentioned various functions performed by the Local Police, including traffic regulation and mediation in conflicts. She asserted that, in a context of intense economic and tourist activity, their role is key.
Among the priorities that Navarro highlighted are the attention to women victims of gender violence, minors, and the elderly. She also emphasized the necessary collaboration between the Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard, and other emergency services to tackle crimes such as drug trafficking.
Acknowledgments to Outstanding Officers
During the event, Police Merit Crosses were awarded in recognition of various officers for their work in the force. Diplomas were also given to five police officers for outstanding actions over the past year, and retired officials were recognized for their careers in the Local Police.
Additionally, the 40th anniversary of the Investigation and Protection Group (GIP) was commemorated, and a tribute was paid to three healthcare workers who saved a person's life near the La Roca health centre. Other organizations collaborating with the Local Police were also recognized during the celebration.
