The Town Hall of Alhaurín de la Torre has approved a plan that includes a new roundabout on Pedro Pérez Hidalgo and traffic lights on Cuesta de Manuel Luis. The underground parking works will necessitate the closure of Isaac Peral avenue.

The local government board of the Town Hall of Alhaurín de la Torre has approved a proposal from the Department of Citizen Security and Mobility, led by Francisco José Sánchez, to reorganise traffic around Isaac Peral avenue during the construction of a new underground car park and the redevelopment of the road itself. The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, commissioned the plan to enhance road safety and minimise disruption.

The project will involve closing the avenue between the end of calle Real and the intersection with Pedro Pérez Hidalgo, María del Valle, and avenida de la Vega, where the Donante roundabout is located. Traffic entering and exiting the Palmilla neighbourhood will be directed through Pedro Pérez Hidalgo street (also known as Virgen Litoral) and the surrounding area of Huertecilla.

The report from the Local Police accompanying the proposal highlights the need to improve the crossing of Pedro Pérez Hidalgo with Tejar and Huertecilla streets, which is currently regulated by stop signs. Instead, a roundabout will be constructed to "improve road safety, optimise traffic flow, and increase the operational capacity of the intersection."

"Roundabouts significantly reduce the number and severity of accidents by eliminating direct crossings between vehicles and decreasing approach speeds," emphasises the police report, which adds that this measure will promote "more orderly and predictable driving."

The proposal also includes improving pedestrian signage on Pedro Pérez Hidalgo, relocating some waste containers to one of the verges, and conditioning access from that street to the El Chato lot, which serves as surface parking, as access via Isaac Peral avenue will be closed during the works.

The Town Hall will also install traffic lights on Tejar street and on Cuesta de Manuel Luis, where a two-way traffic system will be implemented. Due to the narrowness of the road, the traffic lights will regulate vehicle passage in both directions.

The contract for the parking works and the redevelopment of Isaac Peral avenue was recently awarded for 5.9 million euros. The project is part of the Integrated Action Plan (PAI), which will receive 8,961,678 euros in funding through the EU's FEDER Financial Path. The parking facility will have 133 spaces.
