Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has initiated the procedure to reassign the permits for the Wednesday market stalls, which expire after fifteen years.

The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has launched the new awarding of permits for the municipal Wednesday market stalls, following the expiration of the fifteen-year permits granted by the local government board in 2011.

The local government board has approved the process and the regulatory bases governing it. Additionally, it has set the location of the market at El Limón Avenue, where it has been held since 2018, when it was moved from the fairground due to damage caused by rains and subsequent works.

According to the Councillor for Citizen Security and Public Roads, Francisco José Sánchez, the aim is to revitalise street trading, as several stalls have closed due to the retirement of their holders or other circumstances. The councillor adds that those affected have already been personally informed.

“There is space for both new vendors and those who wish to continue”

A total of 46 stalls will be made available in accordance with the Regulatory Ordinance for Street Trading in Alhaurín de la Torre. The bases and announcement will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Province, at which point the application period will open.

Among the selection criteria are demonstrated experience in the sector and social factors, such as difficulties accessing the job market, the number of economically dependent individuals on the applicant, or having dependent family members or those with disabilities. The availability of removable facilities, adherence to a conflict resolution system regarding consumption, registration in an official street trading registry, and the investment allocated to the activity will also be evaluated.

The file includes a map delineating the site, the distribution of stalls, and an emergency evacuation corridor. The weekly event must be coordinated with the activities of the sports pavilion and with the residential and road uses of the surrounding area.

The technical report recommends maintaining the market on El Limón Avenue to ensure continuity of service, take advantage of an already established organisation, and free up the fairground for parking and support for municipal facilities. The new permit will last for 15 years, renewable once for another identical term at the request of the holder, and will be transferable upon notification to the Town Hall.
