Estepona tenders accessibility works for the pedestrian crossing between El Paraíso and Benamara

The Estepona Town Hall has put out to tender the works to improve accessibility for the elevated pedestrian crossing connecting the El Paraíso and Benamara urbanisations, with a base budget of €164,074.97.

The Estepona Town Hall has initiated the tender process for the works to improve accessibility for the elevated pedestrian crossing that links the El Paraíso and Benamara urbanisations, located on the outskirts of the municipality. The project, which has received approval from the central government, has a base tender price of €164,074.97 (including VAT) and a deadline for submitting bids that ends on 12 August.

The Deputy Mayor for Infrastructure, Ana Velasco, explained that the current structure, built in the early 1980s by the area’s property developers, is only accessible via several flights of stairs on either side of the A-7 motorway. The reform plans to install access ramps with a maximum slope of 12.5%, allowing use by the elderly, those with reduced mobility, cyclists, and baby strollers.

The project, which has been processed over three years with the Ministry of Transport, has included municipal budget allocations in the last three fiscal years. The Town Hall has assumed the full cost of the work, which it considers a necessity for residents who regularly use this crossing.

Velasco reminded that this is not the only request from the Town Hall to the central government. The Town Hall has repeatedly requested a new access to Estepona from the A-7, an infrastructure it considers key to improving mobility in the municipality, especially given the population growth in recent years. The governing team has also offered to fund that work.

In recent years, the Town Hall has carried out several actions to improve connections in the outskirts, such as the crossing that links Cancelada with Las Joyas, La Resinera, and Selwo, the road that connected Camino de Briján with Cancelada, or the one that links Casasola, Atalaya, and Isdabe. Currently, a pedestrian connection is being promoted on the Benahavís road to link the Mar and Monte urbanisations with Alquería Avenue.

Companies interested in executing the works for the pedestrian crossing can submit their bids through the Public Sector Contracting Platform until 23:59 on 12 August. The expectation is that the works will begin in the coming months, once awarded, and will represent a significant improvement for the mobility of residents in El Paraíso and Benamara.
