The Vélez-Málaga City Council has launched its summer camps, which this year gather nearly 800 children. The edition includes two additional weeks to facilitate family reconciliation.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council has launched its municipal summer camps once again, which this year gather nearly 800 boys and girls. The initiative takes place at the Covered Pools of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, combining sports, recreational, and educational activities.
The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, and the councillor for Sports, Manuel Gutiérrez, visited both camps on Wednesday to see the activities firsthand. During the tour, they shared the day with the participants and the team of monitors, and checked the daily operation of a programme that has become one of the most demanded municipal services by families in the municipality.
As a novelty, this edition has extended its duration, incorporating the last week of June and the first week of September. This measure responds to the request of families, who seek greater support for reconciling family and work life during the summer period.
The summer offer consists of the traditional municipal Summer Camp and a complementary camp promoted by the Sports Department. This second programme was created with the aim of increasing the number of available places and responding to the high demand recorded each year.
Thanks to this dual proposal, hundreds of children enjoy activities during the holidays such as water games, workshops, group dynamics, and other initiatives aimed at promoting healthy habits, coexistence, and learning through leisure. The Vélez-Málaga City Council continues to bet on these types of programmes, which, in addition to providing a quality alternative for children's free time, represent significant support for families during the non-school period.
The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, highlighted that “these camps are a clear example of the City Council's commitment to families, offering a quality service that facilitates reconciliation and allows hundreds of children to enjoy a summer full of sports, coexistence, and learning.”
For his part, the councillor for Sports, Manuel Gutiérrez, noted that “the participation of nearly 800 boys and girls confirms the success of this initiative and encourages us to continue strengthening the offer of summer activities to meet the needs of families in Vélez.”
The camps operate in the morning, from Monday to Friday, and have specialized monitors. Registrations are made through the municipal website and at the sports facilities themselves, with prices varying depending on the number of weeks and applicable discounts for large families or low incomes.
