UD Almería is accelerating its exit operation and will not include Édgar González, Alejandro Pozo and Marko Perovic in the training camp that will take place in Benahavís starting this Friday.
The Unión Deportiva Almería is finalising the details of its squad ahead of pre-season on the Costa del Sol. The indálico team plans to travel this Friday to The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa in Benahavís, where they will stay until August 7, the date on which they will play a friendly against Córdoba CF. However, three players will not be part of this concentration: defender Édgar González, midfielder Alejandro Pozo and winger Marko Perovic.
According to club sources, the three players have been ruled out by coach García Pimienta, who is looking to reduce the number of players he is working with since the start of pre-season, which exceeded thirty. If they do not find a new destination before departure, they will continue with individual training at the annex of the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.
Almería has already confirmed several departures in recent hours. Selvi Clua has been loaned to Casa Pia in Portugal and Patrick Soko to CD Leganés, pending official confirmation. With these three departures, the club has now made eight moves in its exit operation, in addition to the non-renewals of Alejandro Centelles (Levski Sofia) and Arnau Puigmal (Real Mallorca).
The young Montenegrin Marko Perovic, 21, is under contract until 2029 and has international market interest, making his exit abroad the most likely option after his failed loan to Atlético de Madrid B. Meanwhile, Édgar González has one of the highest salaries in the squad, which forces the club to relocate him to gain salary margin. Andorra, which had him on loan last season, and newly promoted Sabadell have shown interest in him.
The case of Alejandro Pozo is different, as his contract expires in 2027, a year away. Almería will try to obtain a fee for his transfer, but if they do not succeed, he could be loaned out or have his contract terminated to choose a new destination. After a good season at Polish side Jagiellonia, where he played in the Conference League and contributed goals and assists, Girona has shown interest, although nothing has been finalised.
With these three departures, Almería would raise the number of players relocated this summer to ten. Notable sales include Bruno Langa (Qarabag, €1.1 million), Juan Manuel Gutiérrez (Defensa y Justicia, €1.8 million) and Marko Marezi (Portsmouth, €6 million), in addition to the loans of Pedro Fidel (Al Ahli, €300,000) and Rubén Quintanilla (Rayo Majadahonda).
In August, major sales are expected as the sporting management plans to undertake, with names like Arribas, Lopy or Bonini, to adjust the financial balance and be able to sign the left-back, midfielder and centre-forward that García Pimienta demands. Meanwhile, 28 players are expected to travel to Benahavís, including goalkeepers Fernando, Andrés, Bruno and Jesús; defenders Luna, Chirino, Álex Muñoz, Ely, Monte, Pulido, Bonini, Chumi and Popovic; midfielders Gui, Dzodic, Lopy, Baba, Horta and Quim; wingers Baptistao, Sola, Morcillo, Cipenga and Embarba; and forwards Thalys and De la Fuente.
