The Vox spokesperson in Estepona, Manuel Aguilar, claims he has not received notification of the decree that withholds his compensation for a debt of €251,405.98 with the City Council and demands transparency.
The spokesperson for Vox in the Estepona City Council, Manuel Aguilar, has demanded that the Council provide him with "immediate" access to all documentation regarding the debt of €251,405.98 he holds with the local administration, as he stated in a press release. The information, reported by Diario Sur, details that the City Council issued a decree to withhold his compensation corresponding to the first eight months of the year, totalling €2,473.50.
Aguilar maintains that he still has not received notification of that administrative resolution and claims he found out through the press. "The first news I had was from the press and the helplessness I feel is immense," said the spokesperson, who demands "to know the complete file" and insists on "transparency" from the City Council.
"I have the right to know what I am being claimed and to defend myself. The mayor must provide explanations: the media cannot replace the notifications that the interested party must receive"
The councillor has not denied the existence of the debt, but he has accused the mayor, José María García Urbano, of starting "a defamation campaign" aimed at "damaging my image ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, where we will again be political adversaries, he or whoever presents himself in his place".
Aguilar has questioned the municipal management due to "the lack of notifications and delays in responding to citizens" and has reminded that one of the open cases against the mayor, related to the hiring of a woman, is pending trial after the Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of five and a half years in prison. "It cannot be that the Estepona City Council operates like José María García Urbano's ranch," insisted the spokesperson, who was the first deputy mayor and delegated councillor for the economic area with García Urbano from 2011 to 2019.
The Estepona City Council maintains the withholding of the compensation until the debt is resolved, according to the municipal decree.
