Málaga has been the venue for the XII National Congress of Young Farmers, inaugurated by the Government delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia Navarro, as part of Expo Agritech.
During her speech, Navarro highlighted the need to ensure generational change in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), emphasizing that it is essential for this new model to respond to the needs of farmers and ranchers to secure the future of the countryside.
Commitment to Innovation in the Agricultural Sector
Navarro urged young people to educate themselves and engage in innovation in the agricultural and livestock sector, “so that Andalucía and Spain continue to be Europe's pantry,” she stated.
The delegate also emphasized the Andalusian Government's commitment to defending a strong CAP in Europe, without cuts that threaten the profitability of local farms. Additionally, she addressed the need to protect the agricultural sector, which is the cornerstone of food supply.
Current Challenges Faced by Farmers
In her address, Navarro mentioned several challenges affecting farmers and ranchers, such as rising production costs and climate change. The delegate assured that the Andalusian Government will continue working on modernizing irrigation systems and managing water efficiently, with the intention of tackling these challenges with sustainable solutions.
Furthermore, Navarro called for the necessary attention from the Spanish Government for the completion of pending hydraulic infrastructures in Málaga, which total more than 2 billion euros and are essential for the sector's development.
The XII National Congress of Young Farmers is presented as a key event to position Málaga in the landscape of innovation and development in the primary sector.
