In Málaga, the academic year has begun for more than 21,600 students enrolled in higher artistic education in music, dance, design, and drama, as well as in the special regime of languages and sports education.
96% of the students are in public centres, where these disciplines are taught. This year, after the incorporation of students from elementary and professional music and dance education on September 15, enrolment in plastic arts and design has been added.
Details about higher artistic education
Higher artistic education allows for obtaining a degree equivalent to a university degree, as well as facilitating access to master's and doctoral programmes. In public centres in Andalusia, more than 3,470 students have enrolled in the specialties of drama, dance, music, and design.
In total, 704 students have registered in drama, 142 in dance, 1,206 in music, and 1,422 in design. Málaga is the only province in Andalusia that offers all these teachings.
This year, the 99% discount on credits approved in the first enrolment is maintained. This measure aims to ensure that the family's economic situation does not limit access to these studies, also recognising the effort of the students.
About languages and sports education
Málaga has 8 Official Language Schools (EOI), which teach 11 different languages, including English, French, and German. These courses allow students to obtain official certifications according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students can start from the age of 16, or at 14 if the language is different from the one studied as a first foreign language.
The EOIs offer teaching modalities adapted to the needs of the students: in-person, semi-in-person, and distance learning. There are also courses for updating and improving skills for professional groups.
One of the new features for this year is that extraordinary assessments have been brought forward to June, thus facilitating better teaching organisation and more recovery opportunities for students.
Regarding sports education, the Ministry has offered 24 places in each of the five public centres that provide this education in different provinces, including Málaga.
Since 2019, the Junta de Andalucía has implemented various measures to promote and develop these teachings, such as expanding the training offer and creating new centres and educational programmes.
