Nikoline Piwoni, 17, died after being struck by a truck that fled the scene on the A-7 motorway near Mijas. The young woman had enjoyed the Norway-Brazil match and was heading to her accommodation.

A 17-year-old Norwegian girl, Nikoline Piwoni, has died after being hit by a truck on the A-7 motorway as it passes through Mijas. The accident occurred around four in the morning on Monday, hours after the young woman celebrated Norway's victory over Brazil in the women's World Cup.

According to the Guardia Civil, the truck driver fled the scene after the incident and is now being sought by the authorities. The victim was travelling in a VTC vehicle that stopped on the motorway to let her out, which is prohibited on a fast road. The exact circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

A night of celebration that ended in tragedy

Nikoline Piwoni had spent Sunday afternoon watching the World Cup match between Norway and Brazil, which started at 10:00 PM, with a group of friends. After the match, they moved to a nightclub in Puerto Banús, Marbella. Around four in the morning, the young woman requested a VTC service to return to her accommodation, located on the outskirts of Marbella, now within the municipality of Mijas.

The vehicle stopped in the middle of the A-7 motorway, an area where stopping to pick up or drop off passengers is not allowed. For reasons still under investigation, Nikoline got out of the car and was struck by a passing truck. The impact caused her death on the spot, according to the emergency services that arrived at the scene.

The identification of the victim and the search for the driver

The young woman did not have any identification on her, so she could not be identified until hours later. It was on Monday afternoon when her parents, who were also on holiday in the Costa del Sol, reported her missing to the National Police. From there, the authorities were able to confirm that the deceased was Nikoline Piwoni.

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation to locate the truck driver, who fled the scene without providing assistance. Investigators are working with several hypotheses about what occurred. One of them suggests that the young woman attempted to cross the motorway to reach her accommodation, although other possibilities are not ruled out. The reasons why the VTC driver stopped in an unauthorized area are also being examined.

The incident has shocked the Norwegian community in the Costa del Sol and local residents, who are concerned about such incidents on a road with high traffic density. The A-7 as it passes through Mijas is a heavily trafficked road, especially in summer, and accidents on its shoulders are not uncommon.

Authorities remind the importance of not stopping on motorways or highways, except in emergencies. Stopping a VTC on the A-7 to drop off a passenger is a serious violation that can have fatal consequences, as has happened in this case. The Guardia Civil is seeking public assistance to identify the truck driver and clarify the events.

The Norwegian Consulate in Spain has already been informed of the death and is providing assistance to the victim's family. Nikoline's parents, who had accompanied her on holiday, are now experiencing the pain of losing a daughter under tragic circumstances.
