Stage 19 of La Vuelta Ciclista a España will pass through San Pedro Alcántara on September 11, eight years after its last visit. The caravan will arrive around 15:30 and the peloton at approximately 16:15.
On September 11, San Pedro Alcántara will once again be the stage for La Vuelta Ciclista a España, returning to the local area eight years after its last presence in 2018. This event coincides with the 19th stage, which will start in Vélez-Málaga and finish in Peñas Blancas, in Estepona.
The Councillor for Sports, Lisandro Vieytes; the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, and former professional cyclist Luis Ángel Maté presented the route through the urban area and the parallel activities this Tuesday. According to Vieytes, the promotional caravan will arrive at approximately 15:30, while the peloton will arrive around 16:15 or 16:20.
The race will enter San Pedro via the A-397, the old Ronda road, and continue through the urban area to join, via the link to Avenida Oriental, Avenida Luis Braille. From there, it will proceed through the boulevard roundabout and Avenida Norberto Goizueta before heading out towards the motorway via Guadalmina.
The Town Hall will inform in advance about special mobility, traffic, and parking measures that will be necessary during the day, aiming to minimise any potential disruptions and ensure the smooth running of the event.
Vieytes highlighted that “the city will once again become one of the major sports hubs at the national and international level,” as the arrival of La Vuelta will coincide on the same day with the match between Real Madrid and La Laguna Tenerife as part of the XV Costa del Sol Basketball Tournament, which will take place at the Palacio de Deportes Elena Benítez.

The councillor emphasised the impact of the Spanish round, “which is broadcast in nearly 190 countries and reaches a potential audience of around 300 million people,” and noted that “it provides us with a magnificent opportunity to project the image of San Pedro Alcántara worldwide.”
For his part, García stated that “it is a pride that La Vuelta will once again pass through our municipality and, especially, San Pedro Alcántara after eight years,” and emphasised “the extraordinary projection that showing our city to millions of viewers from numerous countries entails.” The deputy mayor encouraged fans and residents “to enjoy an exceptional opportunity to experience the vibrancy of the caravan and the passage of some of the best cyclists in the world.”
Maté highlighted the significance of a competition of this nature passing through the municipality again and asserted that “as a cyclist and as a resident of Marbella, I am filled with pride to showcase our strengths to the world.” The former professional cyclist described La Vuelta as “probably the most important itinerant event in our country” and emphasised the value of leveraging its impact “to promote the region and, at the same time, encourage the use of bicycles.”
The athlete also expressed his satisfaction with the presence at the presentation of representatives from various clubs and, especially, many young people. “Events like this help to foster adherence to cycling and to increase the number of bicycles,” said Maté, who explained that on the same day as the stage, a joint ride will be organised by cycling entities from Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara, with a special focus on minors, to highlight the strength of this discipline on the Costa del Sol.
Prior to the race, activities related to cycling will be held, including a joint ride led by Luis Ángel Maté with the participation of local clubs. Residents will be able to watch the cyclists pass through the streets of the urban area live and enjoy a day that combines elite sport and the promotion of sustainable mobility.
